The Middle Tyger Recreation Center is operated out of Duncan Elementary School in partnership with Spartanburg School District 5. The Middle Tyger Recreation Center provides a variety of fun and entertaining programs for all ages and is home to the Spartanburg Pistons wheelchair basketball team. Children can enjoy piano lessons, karate, and a nationally recognized Afterschool Youth Club. Full day summer camps and a playground program are also offered allowing children to enjoy the facility year-round. Adults can enjoy maintaining an active lifestyle with Zumba, shag, dance classes and free basketball.
In addition to on-going programs, the Middle Tyger Recreation Center is also available to rent for special events such as birthday parties, wedding receptions, baby showers, family reunions, meetings, and other special events. With 4 multi-purpose classrooms (1050, 460, 460, and 100 sq. ft.), kitchen, restrooms, and a gymnasium the Middle Tyger Recreation Center is a great place to host your next event. Nationally Recognized After School Youth Club
- Monday-Friday 2:30-5:30 pm
- In District residents $35.00 per week per participant; Out of District Residents $37.50 per week per participant.

Piano
Monday afternoons and evenings, ongoing year round for ages 4 through adults.
Piano lessons are conducted in cooperation with Piano Performers School of Music, a division of Top Performers, LLC. Class times will be assigned by the instructor.
The class combines traditional methods of teaching piano with computer technology. Kay Young, owner/director of Top Performers, LLC shares “Studies suggest that exposure to music can have a noticeable impact on academic performance. After just eight months of keyboard lessons, preschoolers in a study at the University of California, Irvine, showed a 48% boost in their spatial IQ”.
- 30 minute weekly class: in district $38.00 per month; out of district $47.50 per mont
- 60 minute weekly class: in district $70.00 per month; out of district $87.50 per month

Mondays, 7-8:30 P.M.
Japanese Shotokan Karate
Martial Arts program for ages 4 to adult based on a 12-belt curriculum with the purpose of building character, instilling discipline, teaching respect and manners, and developing the mind and body. Call Middle Tyger Recreation Center at 949-2349 after 5:30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays to register.

Wheelchair Basketball
Middle Tyger Recreation Center is the home of the Spartanburg Pistons Wheelchair Basketball team. Practices are held on Wednesday nights, and home games are played at the center on select Saturdays. Academic Camps
Top Performers, LLC conducts Academic Camps periodically during the year, and for a week during the summer in Piano, Juilliard Music Adventure, Math, Language Arts, and PSAT/SAT preparation. Call 949-2349 for dates and times.
