The Tyger River Foundation (TRF) has embarked on a long-term initiative to develop conservation, education, and recreation assets along the Tyger River. TRF opened the Tyger 10 Nature Park to the public in 2012 and has begun the process of acquiring other riverfront property for future development.
Together with the Greater Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce and Spartanburg County Foundation, the Middle Tyger Area Council has brought together the following partners to manage the Tyger River Watershed & Quality of Life Fund as a 501(C)3 non-profit: Middle Tyger Area Council, Spartanburg Area Conservancy, Spartanburg County Parks Department, Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District, Tyger River Foundation and Upstate Forever.
Mission: The Tyger River Watershed & Quality of Life Fund will support projects designed to benefit water quality or provide recreational access as part of a Blueway or Greenway trail along the Tyger River, including the North, Middle and South Tyger Rivers and their tributaries.
Vision:Transform our county’s hidden treasures to provide thriving, walkable, bikeable, paddle friendly communities designed for people of all ages and abilities. Creating economic development as an outgrowth of active and passive recreation opportunities.
