COMMUNITY CENTER INFORMATION
Lake Cooley Park, Lake Cooley Outdoor Education Center, and Outdoor Recreation are all located at the same site at 100 Cooley Dock Rd, Inman, SC 29349 through a partnership with the SJWD Water District. An outdoor education facility was opened to the public in October of 2017 that serves both as a meeting place for local groups as well as a destination for outdoor enthusiasts and educators. Adventures at Lake Cooley include playing on our new playground, renting an unpowered lakeside shelter, or fishing while enjoying beautiful mountain views.
Lake Cooley itself is owned by the SJWD Water District, see boating restrictions below for details.
AMENITIES
Amenities at this location include:
- A brand new ADA accessible dock and kayak launch, open during park hours
- A brand new playground as of February 2019, open during park hours
- A small boat dock and boat ramp, open during park hours (see below for boating restrictions)
- Four rentable, unpowered picnic shelters, open during park hours
- YAKS AND SNAKS, A summer-time kayak and paddleboard rental program, open Thursday through Friday 1pm-7pm and Saturday through Sunday 8am-7pm
- ADVENTURE CAMP, A summer-time day camp open through registration only (contact [email protected] for details)
- OUTDOOR EDUCATION BUILDING, A 40-person meeting space overlooking Lake Cooley, open to the public by appointment or rental only (contact [email protected] for details)
BOATING RESTRICTIONS
Spartanburg Parks does not regulate the boating on Lake Cooley. Boating is regulated by the SJWD Water District and is by permit only. Permits can be obtained from the SJWD customer service department located at the SJWD Water District office on Highway 29 in Wellford SC. Permits can be obtained Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. We allow up to a 15 hp engine on a watercraft and up to a 30 hp engine on a pontoon boat. The fee is $40 a year for Spartanburg County Residents, $80 a year for all other instate county residents, and $120 a year for out of state residents. Permits are valid from January 1 – December 31 of each calendar year.
