We are working with Area 12 Special Olympics to bring this to our community for the first time. To be eligible to participate in Special Olympics, you must be at least 8 years old and identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction. We do require athletes be aged 10 and over for our water sports.
Practices will include land, pool, and lake. They will take place over the summer to prepare for competition next year.

While the Parks Department does not directly provide therapeutic programming, we are proud to partner with local programs, support groups, organizations, and service providers to serve our special needs community.
